Seeing is believing and for Dr. Skjonsberg it was enough to see how her mother suffered from the repercussions of an accident and how chiropractics helped above all else with her recovery. That was the beginning of a seven-year journey studying the science of chiropractic medicine between Canada and the U.S. Dr. Skjonsberg’s approach is to offer a choice to her patients, an educated and informed choice on the effective benefits of chiropractic treatment. But her bottom line above all else is her impassioned desire to see people resuming their regular lifestyles and getting back to doing what they love, be it golfing, hunting, skiing, fishing or bouncing over rugged terrain on a bike. And this, ladies and gentlemen, was the part of the interview when this little dynamo fairly popped out of her chair as our conversation evolved towards the merits of living in Grand-Bay/Westfield. “Nature! - it’s our nature and all the activities it supports with the horse trails, walking trails, ATV trails. There is such a bounty of recreational outlets that lends itself to a merger between life and work. I really want to help people get back to the activity they love to enjoy life!” And being a small business in a community such as this makes everything so much more personal in how we connect to each other. It’s a sense of belonging. Dr. Skjonsberg recognizes that as a community and business chamber we have an opportunity to put back into the community that supports us. Like working together to come up with something for our youth, much like skateboard parks have done, or planning of fun events like skate parties in the winter or movie nights at Unity Park in the summer. Dr. Skjonsberg’s husband, Dr. Norm Skjonsberg, practices chiropractic medicine as well out east Saint John, but his approach is a better fit to working in a larger-run establishment as opposed to her style of personableness and comfort in Grand-Bay/Westfield. Both are recognized professionals in their field of medicine, Dr. Norm being the President of the New Brunswick Chiropractic Association.
