GRAND BAY-WESTFIELD
VOLUNTEER
FIRE / RESCUE
Recruitment

.

   The Grand Bay-Westfield Volunteer Fire Department is a progressive organization that is continually growing and welcomes applications for membership from men and women interested in providing firefighting and other emergency services to the public.  The Department operates out of two  fire stations housing seven pieces of fire fighting apparatus that  respond to various emergency calls.  These calls range from fires  to emergency medical services or rescues.

  The Department offers its members numerous incentives in exchange for their dedicated service that at times can be very demanding, both time wise and physically.  These incentives include honorariums for attendance at both emergency calls and training sessions, a full work dress including coat and boots for all firefighters that successfully complete their probationary period, full provincially and internationally recognized firefighter training at no cost to members.  In addition as a member of the Department, you will have access to the Departments physical fitness equipment, which includes weights, universal, stepper, stationary bike, etc.  The Fire Department is a very active Department responding to approximately 200 calls per year as well as training on a weekly basis. Fire fighting on either a volunteer or career basis can be a very rewarding business for those with a genuine interest.

      In order for the Department to continue to operate in the professional and effective manner that it has since its inception there are some expectations that all members must be willing to meet.  These include:

        a) reading and understanding the Departments Standing Operating Guidelines;
        b) responding to all calls that come into your district that you are available for;
        c) attend all weekly training sessions, special courses and Department functions such as open houses, etc.  The Department requires one night a week commitment from its members, but there are always lots of things to do on the other nights;  being as busy as we are time is spent on other nights doing maintenance and other functions.

        This is a general overview of the Department and information on what will be expected of you as a member of the Grand Bay-Westfield Volunteer Fire/ Rescue Department.

        As stated before, we are a very busy Department, the time you put in is up to you,
 however we do require one night of the week for training.  There may also be training on the weekends; this does not happen very often.

       This adventure can be a very enjoyable and rewarding way to give to your  community.  If you feel that you can have the interest and ability we look forward to receiving your application.
