Almost all of the customs of Christmas can be traced back to the era of Queen Victoria when the tree was first introduced, Christmas Cards first sent, crackers first snapped off, Santa first makes his appearance, merchants first begin the commercialize the season, many carols were revived or written, the turkey dinner became the standard Christmas fare, etc. In this workshop, we will see through a series of photos that David Goss used to illustrate his book, Old Tyme Christmas in New Brunswick, how these new ideas were carried off by New Brunswickers and as well, explore the era through games, poems, prose, illustrations, and the lavish decorations they developed (we will make a couple) that will assist anyone who might like to hold a Victorian Christmas event of their own to mark the current season. Homemade sweets, tea, and coffee will be served Enter your name for a free draw This workshop will be held at the Brundage Point Centre November 21, 2010 Starting at 2:00 pm |
