New Fire Chief Appointed

Grand Bay-Westfield, NB Tuesday, April 27, 2010:

Grand Bay-Westfield Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Troy Gautreau as Fire Chief effective May 1, 2010.

Mr. Gautreau brings 19 years of firefighting experience to his new role. He previously served in the position of Deputy Chief for six years and as the Training Officer for the Grand Bay-Westfield Volunteer Fire/Rescue Department. Troy holds a Certificate in Fire Service Leadership from Dalhousie University. Additionally, he has completed all NB Emergency Measures training courses and is an experienced Emergency Medical Responder. Troy also played a key role in the development and training of the Department’s Incident Command System.

The municipality began its search for a new Chief when the position became vacant as a result of a career advancement opportunity for former Chief Dan McCoy. The municipality established a Selection Committee consisting of NB Fire Marshal Benoit LaRoche, Human Resources Consultant Sally Wells, and Councillor Diane McGowan to oversee the selection process and make a recommendation to Town Council. As Mr. Gautreau is related to the Town Manager it has been determined the position will report directly to the Mayor’s Office upon the advice of our HR Consultant.

Council is pleased to have identified a strong candidate to serve the citizens of our community and to continue the departments’ history of having outstanding leadership for its’ members.
